Ok, So A Lovely Box At My Front Door (aka The Taffy Carlisle Huffington Story)

So, I go out to walk my dogs tonight, and notice, after opening my front door, that there is a box with the words "perishable" on the side of it propped up against my front door. Upon further inspection, I see the words "Tastykake" on the top of the box, with a note printed on the mailing label, "Happy Birthday! See you soon! Mom."

Now THIS is my kinda present!!! I opened the box after uploading the latest episode (because had I done that before, you all would not be able to listen to the latest show, as I would be busy stuffing my face), and found a sugar-free assortment of chocolate cakes, mini crumcakes, and cookie bars.

Tastykakes are a HUGE part of my childhood. They were SUCH a special treat when we were growing up. Growing up outside of Philadelphia, you didn't mess with Twinkies or Devil Dogs. It was Tastykakes all the way. I remember the big Tastykake sign at Veteran's Stadium when my dad would take us to see the Phillies play, or the big billboard on I-76 RIGHT before you would head into Center City that had the big Tastykake clock on it. It sounds ridiculous, but these pastries remind me of summers in my backyard taking a break from our pool, or laying on our old couch downstairs in the TV room eating an apple pie and reading a stack of comic books I bought from Rainbow Collectibles. And while you can get them down here now, they don't taste the same. I know it sounds ridiculous, but they taste better when you get them up home. (And before you all think I am crazy, Drum will back me up on that. He thought I was crazy, too.)
Of course, part of this probably stems from the fact that I turn 35 in 36 minutes, and I'm a little bummed about it.

happy birthday! 35, huh? Amateur...

Seriously...don't get hung up on your age yet. you are young and have a good life. Enjoy it. You can worry about age later, when you're 51 like me...

Good heavens - did you check for razor blades???
I would never eat something I just found in front of my door (except chocolate) but of course I am paranoid :)

This is going to make you do the gay gasp, but I have never eaten a Tastykake. For real. I'm wasn't even sure what they were until I saw the picture.
