Ok, so.....grrrr....aaarrrghh....grrrr.....

It's been a while since I have posted anything comics related on the site, but I bought on a whim yesterday, the first trade of Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead". I am finding more and more enjoyment as I seem to take a step away from the traditional superhero comics and look at some other genres. Considering I tend to not like horror stuff, I surprised myself by picking it up. Plus, it was only $9.99, so I figured what the hell.

Yeah, not a good idea to read this book right before going to bed.

The book opens with a cop from Kentucky being shot by an escaped convict. He wakes up a month later to find that his town has become filled with Zombies. Media outlets are dead and his wife and son are missing. He finds another stranger who tells him that many people tried to get to Atlanta, where, according to the govenrnment, they would be better protected.

Does he make it to Atlanta? Does he find his wife and child? Are they zombies?

I strongly recommend this book. It was a thrilling read, and never really got into the "Boo!" territory. Things didn't jump out at people because, well, their zombies...they don't jump.... Plus with the death of two major characters in the first trade alone, you don't get that feelings of safety you get from reading about a more traditional character like Superman. Plus the art is grisly, but not nauseating (for the most part).

If you are a comic fan, and looking for some interesting new reads, give "The Walking Dead" a try.
