Ok, so a review of Marc Broussard's latest CD, "S.O.S: Save Our Soul."

A few years ago, while playing around with Yahoo! Music Player on the Instant Messanger program, an artist named Marc Broussard came up as a recommendation. I listened to a couple of the songs as they came up, and figured I would like the whole CD, so I bought it. I can honestly say that "Carenco," the CD in question is one of those desert island albums I would have to have with me. Broussard is a young man with a BIG, soulful voice. All of the songs on that first album sound completely different. He tries his had at pop, blues, jazz, folk, soul....it really is an amazing CD. Anyway, I have been waiting for his second album for a while, and luckily it is here. (And was waiting for me in my mailbox today. Hurrah, eBay!!!)

"S.O.S: Save Our Soul" is a different kind of CD. Broussard decided to record mostly covers of soul songs from the 60's and 70's. Broussard picks songs from the works of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gay, Otis Redding and others. Some of the songs I had heard from, like "Respect Yourself" and "Inner City Blues (Makes Me Wanna Holler)." Other songs I was not familiar with, but it doesn't make them any less appealing. The vocals on the album are amazing, with Broussard's strong, soulfull voice coming through on songs like "Inner City Blues" and "You Met Your Match." The accompanying music sounds more like a band than a bunch of studio musicians who came in seperately. My one complaint about the album is that some of the songs are REALLY short, but it's understandable given the material. It's an amazing CD, and while not "Carenco" for me, which I fell in love with immediately, it's one that I will defintely go back to again and again.
