So, in attempt to get something accomplished tonight that was productive (and because I was not going to drive back to the gym because the men's locker room is under repairs), I decide to mow my lawn. I get the lawnmower out, get it started, no problem! Starts up for me right away. I get through mowing my backyard and think, "Wow, I am not feeling as tired as I thought I was going to...I'll mow the front yard now. Oh wait, there's a spot over where that old tree stump is. I'll just mow to the point where the stump stops the front of the mower, and then edge with the weedwacker all around the stump."You all MUST see where this is going, right?
Apparently, the stump was very dead. So dead, in fact that when I hit it, it came out of the ground and went into the blades of the mower. (This is to a little tree, not an oak tree or anything, to give you the mental picture you need.)
So shards of...tree come flying out from the side of the mower, I back up and think, "Ok, that wasn't too bad."
Then the mower, after about 15 seconds of sounding like it was winding down, just kinda...dies.
I check the blades. Clear
I check the gear. Clear.
I check to make sure that I just didn't coincidentally run out of gas at the same time. No, I see gas in the tank.
I notice that when I touch the gas tank, it feels hot. Very hot, in fact. So, maybe I overheated it. I decide to let it cool down for a while and weed wack and get the leafblower out. (Shut up, Taffy.). I work on the weeds and leaves off of the porch for a while, and pull some of the bigger weeds that are coming through the patio tiles, and go back to the lawnmower. Nuttin. I try priming it again, just two times. Still nothing.
So I go BACK under the mower to see if there is something blocking the blades that I just missed. Nothing I can see, and when I turn the blades, I hear a sloshing noise aroun 11:00 on the "face" of the blade range. Putting the mower back on it's regular side, I assume that I have now flooded the tank for the night, so it wouldn't start even if I fixed whatever was ailing it, and, a thuderstorm appearing almost out of nowhere, I quickly gathered up my lawn care stuff and went back in the house, to ease the frazzled nerves of a pug who was...a bit agitated by the fact that the power went out for just a second.
I did figure out how to extend the wire on the weedwacker so that it was at a length that would get some work done (Again, shut it, Taffy.) So, I'm feelin a little butch. I'm all dirty and gross and am feeling that I accomplished just a little bit, and wanted to do more! Drum is very much the landscaper, and with his leaving soon, the responsibility falls soley on my shoulders. I'm feeling motivated to take care of these things. I would hate to have to replace yet another necessity in this house of cards that seems to be buckling. I suppose in the meantime I could borrow neighbor's lawnmowers til I can afford to buy one if that's the case. Or it just may need to sit and Drum will be able to work with me to get it fixed tomorrow. I don't know. I'm a jump the gun kinda guy, so I'm thinking this is going to end with me trying to get a large box in the back of my car after a trip to Lowe's.
Again, that's just me.
Anyway, I figure for all my hard work and being sweaty and dirty, I think that I earned a song tonight. I have bought Me'Shelle NDegeocello's "The National Anthem," a cover of a Radiohead song off of a Radiohead Tribute CD. There isn't a video for it, so I decided I would put the song that started my facination with her up here, "If That's Your Boyfriend (He Wasn't Last Night.)" - a kick ass song with an amazing video. Plus, she's kinda weirdly hot. I think iut may be because she's butcher than I am. Me'Shelle is an amazing artist. Her album 1999 album Bitter is one of my all time favorite CDs. It is a must on my iPod.
Oh, and Rodan tunes me out when I talk about her. Told me so the other week. Nice. :P
