Well, as most major news agencies reported today, Captain America died in his comic today. I got to the store late, and asked Terri, the girl who works at the store about the hoopla. She stated that she had seen a lot of people coming in looking for a copy of it, and saying that the story was pretty good. She said that they sold out almost instantly, but there were copies waiting for people who had subscribed to the series for their "pull list (Where a comic store reserves copies of certain titles for regular customers, often with discounted prices involved.) Anyway, she let me look at it.Yep, he looks dead.
But it may be a marketing ploy to talk about the series, which, let's face it, people are. Even still, there is a part of me that feels sad by this, even though I don't read the comic. I've never really even been a fan of the character in other books. He's just a little two "Mom, Country and Apple Pie." for today's times. That being said, he is still an icon for this country - even more so, I would say than Superman (Some would debate this as it has been said that Superman is the "ultimate immigrant."). He represented a more black and white stand on what is good or bad, always going after the Nazi robots and Commie scientists. I feel that Captain America's death is being committed as a statement of some sort - what that statement is, I'm not sure. I just feel like a little more innocence is gone from the world. It just makes me sad.
