Seventeen girls at Gloucester High School not only got pregnant, but according to some, it was no accident.
"Pregnancy was the desired outcome," school superintendent Christopher Farmer says.
"So they did it on purpose?" Miller asks.
"That's what it sounds like, yes," Farmer says.
School officials discovered the pregnancy pact after some girls seemed disappointed that their pregnancy tests from the school nurse came back negative.

"they just feel like being pregnant will give them some sort of status"
Yeah, That of a whore...

A whore is someone who is paid for sex by definition. They are people who are messed up. Who are you to judge anyone?
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Maybe instead of judging and criticising these children's (yes, they are still children), it is more important to look at the cultural and environmental factors that likely contributed to the situation. These girls are living in a sex-saturated society --- sex is everywhere, yet sexual health is not. Where are they getting their information? What are their resources? If the only place they are seeing the ramifications of pregnancy are in the media (ie. Jamie Lynn Spears, Nicole Richie, etc.) rather than getting accurate and relevant information from the people who are proven to be more influential in their lives (parents, teachers, other adults), what do you expect the consequences to be?
ReplyDeleteTHEY MADE A PACT TO GET PREGNANT!
ReplyDeleteOk, not Whores so much as STUPID!
THe pregnancy pact is short-sighted, to say the least. I have to wonder what is missing from the girl's lives that they feel the need to have a child to fulfill them while they are so young. Not to get on a soapbox, but if we actually taught sex education, we would not have the high teen pregnancy rate that we do now. It seems parents want to live in denial about their kids and sex. That is not working. Kids are going to experiment with sex, they need to learn how to play safely so they do not pass diseases or make babies. Other countries are SO far ahead of us!!
ReplyDeleteHas everyone seen the previews for that show on NBC, The Baby Borrowers? Too bad it didn't come out like 9 months ago when these girls were making this pact. Check out this link to the show where you can see clips. LESSON!

But Casey, we DO teach sex education in school....The Bush Administration gives all sorts of funding to abstinence based programs...
ReplyDelete(this is where you would see my eyes rolling)
Don't get me started... I come from a family that starts young. MY Mom had her first child at 16, my oldest brother was a father at 16. Abstinence based programs are naive and attempt to scare kids away from sex. Never gonna happen!! I wrote my Junior research paper in 1994 about condoms in schools, and it was a miracle I was able to write that paper. I had to talk to the Vice Principal, who was a major asshole, about the paper. I had to fight to write the paper, and I only used the word sex twice. That was difficult! I love my country, but we need to get our heads out of our collective asses!!
ReplyDeleteyes we _may_ be behind the times, but in some other countries these girls would have been executed
ReplyDeletethey're all sluts and althought I don't believe the child should be punished I don't beleive these children deserve public assistance to raise their children.
ReplyDeleteActually if I were the parent of these children, the baby would be taken directly from the hospital room to an adoption agency, without the child bearing child ever meeting it.
Or I'd crush a morning after pill into her oatmeal.
eithe one works for me, but a child who can't make adult decisions with her own life, certainly has no place making choices for anyone elses.
